Feature: Oasis Morocco

Oasis Morocco Resort

Only a short trip away from Spain and in the same time zone as the UK, Morocco is the perfect place to escape. In this fascinating country, ancient and modern happily co-exist, and tradition mingles with cosmopolitan attitudes. Its natural physical beauty ranges from lovely unspoilt coastlines through scenic mountain landscapes to the dramatic wilderness of the Sahara, and its Mediterranean climate and cultural richness make it a paradise waiting to be discovered.

If the whole country represents a great investment opportunity, Morocco’s north-eastern Mediterranean coast is the best choice for those who value unspoilt natural beauty and for investors wishing to purchase in a new, up-and-coming area, an investment opportunity recently highlighted by the Daily Mail read here.

Our Oasis Beach and Golf Resort is a stunning new project featuring apartments, villas and town homes on Morocco’s beautiful and largely undiscovered Mediterranean coast. This exclusive enclave within the extensive and luxurious Mediterrania Saïdia resort will undoubtedly become one of Morocco’s most prestigious destinations, and is an ideal opportunity for investors to purchase in this up-and-coming area whose popularity and accessibility are growing fast. Prices start from £80,193 for apartments, £150,263 for town homes and £208,242 for villas.

Registered agents can log into the site to download a full workbook for this development. Alternatively navigate through to our consumer site Oasis Morocco page for a full summary.

The Mail on Sunday

Sophisticated Marrakesh is luring a new breed of buyer

At Africa’s northern tip, Morocco is just nine miles from Spain and was once seen as an exotic destination by an elite group including Sir Winston Churchill, the millionaire Getty family and designer Yves St Laurent.
However, the country is turning into a free-for-all as developers move in and cranes line the cost as developers spring up.

Paul Staines of Newbury-based Saffron Villas says the country is becoming more appealing to British buyers. “We sold 200 properties in 2005 and more than 400 this year,” he says.

Morocco traditionally attracted wealthy, bohemian buyers seeking riads hidden in the medina walls but in the past 18 months, popularity has shifted to modern apartments in developments such as those by Spanish developer Fadesa, in the north coast town of Saida. Off-plan apartments there typically cost £120,000 to £140,000.

Your Place Abroad in the Mail on Sunday, Again!

The Mail on SundayThe Mail on Sundays coverage of Your Place Abroad ambassadors continued as an articled featuring Ron Atkinson appeared in the property section this weekend.

"Big Ron" has bought a number of properties with us with the Mail focussing on his two bedroom penthouse in Tavira on the Algarve. Read the full article below.

Excuse my Portuguese now, Ron?

Former Manchester United manager Ron Atkinson may be struggling to learn French for BBC2’s celebrity school series Excuse My French, but he’d be better off learning Portuguese (and, some still might say, some manners).

For despite losing more than a million pounds when sacked as an ITV sports commentator in 2004 after his now infamous on-air racist remark, the 67-year-old has just snapped up an apartment off-plan in Portugal.

Your Place Abroad in the Mail on Sunday

The Mail on SundayYour Place Abroad featured heavily in The Mail on Sunday's property section with a story focusing on YPA ambassador Andrew Flintoff.

Meet the Flintoffs
Exclusive: Where Freddie and Rachael are buying their sunshine hideaway

Freddie Flintoff sees the world's exotic places on tour with the England team, but found Tenerife had all he wanted for a family getaway - complete with golf course.

By rights, this should have been a summer of test triumph for Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff. Twelve months after his inspirational Ashes performance, he was due to lead his country in the cricket series against Pakistan.

But, like his injured captain Michael Vaughan, Freddie, 28 has learnt he too will be sidelined for months because of another operation on his ankle. Now it's touch and go whether he will be ready for this winter's crucial return Ashes showdown in Australia.

It's not all doom and gloom, however. Freddie and his wife Rachael, 29 can at least spend more time with their children Holly, two, and Corey, six months, and look forward to one of the rewards sport superstardom has brought them - a stunning holiday home in the sun.

Barclays Bank Research

Barclays BankBrits with property abroad set to double, reveals new research from Barclays
Source Barclays.com Jan 2006

The number of Brits who own property abroad is set to double to 4.4 million, according to new research by Barclays. Five percent of those surveyed already own a home abroad (the equivalent of 2.2 million people in the UK) and a further five percent said that they are definitely going to buy a property overseas in the future. In addition, a staggering 37 percent of respondents said that they were considering a purchase abroad.

However, before the dream can become a reality, there are concerns that need to be overcome:

  • 58 percent of those who are definitely or considering buying are concerned about getting caught out by legal or tax issues.
  • 17 percent were worried about keeping the property secure while it is empty.
  • A further 14 percent were concerned about being able to understand the local language well enough.
  • Only eight percent were worried about being taken for a ride and paying too much for property.

And if red-tape, trouble-free purchase could be guaranteed, the following countries would be the destinations of choice – with a couple of surprise destinations outside the European property hotspots making the top five.

Top countries for Brits planning to buy abroad, 1 Spain (inc Balearics and Canary Islands) 30%, 2 USA 15%, 3 France 14%, 4 Italy 10%, 5 South Africa 6%, 6 Dubai 5% 7 Portugal 5%, 8 Bulgaria 3%, 9 Croatia 2%, 10 Morocco 1%, 11 Don’t know 9%.

Suzanne Clay, Head of European Business Development at Barclays comments: “The trend towards owning property abroad shows no sign of abating and could go through the roof if people were more confident of a hassle-free purchase. That’s why we offer a range of products to help Brits manage their finances and property efficiently when they are living abroad.”
